Cambridge

Our first stop on this tour will give you the chance to explore Cambridge, and its world renowned university. Your expert Guide will take you on a walking tour of this beautiful historical city, where you will be able to discover it´s ornate buildings and unique culture.

Cambridge University is the second-oldest university in the English-speaking world, and the world´s third-oldest surviving university.

Founded in 1209 by a group of rebel Oxford Scholars, Cambridge is made up of a variety of institutions which include 31 colleges, and over 150 academic departments, faculties and other institutions, organised into 6 schools.

Learn all about the ancient and historic rivalry with Oxford University, and follow in the footsteps of some of the university´s most famous alumni, such as Alan Turing - the brilliant WW2 codebreaker - Oliver Cromwell and Charles Darwin.

Situated next to the River Cam lies King's College, a stunningly beautiful example of medieval Gothic architecture. Founded by Henry VI in 1441, its fan vault ceiling is the largest in the world.

Construction on the college chapel began in 1446 and took almost 70 years to complete. Today, it is home to a world-famous choir that broadcasts to millions of listeners all over the globe every year on Christmas Eve.

Oxford

Our next stop will of course be Oxford, to explore the city and famous university.

A unique city, Oxford is the only place in the UK where you can find arquitecture from every period in English history, from early Saxon, right the way through to Gothic Revival.

As your expert tour guide takes you on a walking tour of the city, you will discover the reason Oxford is known as 'The City of Dreaming Spires'. The guides commentary will help bring the history of this beautiful place to life.

University of Oxford is the oldest University in the English-speaking world with origins dating back to the 11th century.

See the famous Christ Church College, founded by Henry VIII in 1532, which also functions as the UK's smallest cathedral.

The university is made up of thirty-nine semi-autonomous constituent colleges, six permanent private halls, and a range of academic departments which are organised into four divisions. It operates the world's oldest university museum, as well as the largest university press in the world. It has also seen some notable alumni pass through its colleges over the years, including Albert Einstein, J.R.R. Tolkien, Margaret Thatcher, Christopher Wren, Lawrence of Arabia and Bill Clinton, to name a few.

Its beautiful architecture has been featured in movies such as Harry Potter and The Golden Compass, while it has also inspired replicas around the world. The famous dining hall, for example, has been reproduced in Cornell University & the University of Chicago. The dining hall in all Harry Potter movies is modelled on the Christchurch dining hall!
